Kenji Minogue!

New single “Danny”

I don´t do mondays! But with the new single “Danny” by Belgian Youtube sensation Kenji Minogue I will survive this day. “Danny” was launched at 7pm at 29 August. Within 24 hours the video had 6000 views on Youtube and was shared by several hundreds of people on Facebook.Kenji Minogue in outfits by our friend Tom van Der Borght.

Tom Van der Borght (1978) studied fashion at the Stedelijke Academie VoorSchone Kunsten Sint Niklaas. In 2011 he wins the Belgian Final of the Triumph Inspiration Award and competes in the world final. His piece is worn by Lily Cole and shot by Ellen Von Unwerth. In the mean time everything is smiling on Tom’s career. After a successful passage at the Berlin Fashion Week, he will be showing his new collection in Paris at Showroom Belgium by the Flanders Fashion Institute. Moreover, this weekend the fashion films of Van der Borght will be screened at Sameheads Gallery in Berlin for the Windowlicker Designer Showroom, which wants to create a platform for risingEuropean fashion talent. Nevertheless, Tom immediately took time to collaborate with Kenji Minogue for their second video clip. Video by Goran Grahovac.

Tom Van der Borght: ” Our collaboration is like a love crush. Unexpected, passionate and with tons of desire! Their humoristic Flemish dialect on electronic beats perfectly fits my label’s identity. Kenji had the honour to wear pieces of my 2013 collection Church of Chica, which is based on my dog. The outer space clash between the deeply Flemish solidity and wacko futurism perfectly fits the Tom Van der Borght-philosophy.  Moreover, the timing was perfect. I loved collaborating with a project from my hometown, as a counter weight for all the recent international attention for my work. Gent “SWAG”, ready to conquer the world!”

Thier first song Naam Familienaam turned into an overnight Youtube hit in Belgium: over 74.000 views and still going, tweets all the way from Brasil to Slovenia, radio interviews and press articles. The song soon started to live a life of itself: fans cheered as they saw it as THE accusation against women being harrassed at bars, and lesbians regarded thesong as a parody on the dispute about whose last name a child from a lesbian couple will get. Their first live try-out in May 2012 at the Brussels Kunstenfestivaldesarts was a success: the audience went through the roof. During Batabang in July at the Gentse Fieste more and more people hysterically flocked together for their daily set.

At Pukkelpop (the Lowlands of Belgium) things went ballistic: by day three the front stage area was packed with people chanting the lyrics of Naam Familienaam. People even tweeted: ‘Why go see the Foo Fighters now when one can see Kenji Minogue?’

Kenji Minogue is working hard on new songs: 2013 will be the Kenji Year!
